Getting paid

Once a claim is agreed, the only thing between you and the money is your payment details. Sending them early is the difference between same day and next week.

We pay claim settlements directly to you. There are three methods, and the main difference between them is speed.

  • EFT or ACH, typically 1 to 3 business days. Direct deposit into your bank account. EFT for Canadian accounts, ACH for US accounts. This is the method we recommend, and the one we will suggest unless you ask otherwise.
  • Interac e-Transfer, often same day. Available for Canadian accounts. Same day when we can start it before the daily cutoff, otherwise the next business day.
  • Paper cheque, typically 7 to 10 business days. Mailed to your address. Worth choosing only if electronic payment is not an option for you, since the mail is the slow part.

We will only ever ask for these once a claim has been agreed, and always in writing on the claim itself.

  • Bank name and bank address
  • Transit number, or routing number (the ABA number in the US)
  • Bank account number
  • Account type, chequing or savings
  • Account holder name, exactly as it appears on the account
  • An email address for the remittance advice

A void cheque or a direct deposit form from your bank covers most of this in one attachment and removes the chance of a transposed digit, which is the usual cause of a failed transfer.

  • The email address the transfer should go to
  • The legal name of the recipient
  • A security question and answer, if the account is not set up for auto-deposit
  • The legal payee name
  • The full mailing address, including postal or ZIP code
  • A contact name and phone or email, so we can confirm it arrived
Warning

We will never ask for your banking details over the phone out of the blue, and we will never ask you to send them to a personal email address. A request for payment details will always come on the existing claim thread from a freightsimple.com address. If something looks off, stop and call us on +1 (604) 200-2500.

The claim closes, and at that point you are free to dispose of the damaged goods and the packaging you have been holding. We will tell you explicitly when that is the case, so do not throw anything out until you hear it from us.

Note that a claim settlement is separate from the invoice for the shipment itself. The two are not netted off against each other, so an outstanding shipment invoice stays payable on its own terms. See Payments.
