World Cup 2026 Shipping Advisory
Published June 2026. Closure details below link to the official city sources, which each city keeps current, so you always see the latest information.
The FIFA World Cup is running through mid-July across host cities in the United States and Canada. An event this size brings road closures, tighter local capacity, and heavier congestion around the host areas. For LTL freight, that can mean localized pickup and delivery delays on match days, and in some cases temporary carrier surcharges on affected lanes.
This page explains what to expect anywhere a match is played, which metros to plan around, and where to find the official, up-to-date closure details.
What to expect near any host city
The pattern is the same in every host city, so you can plan around it wherever you ship:
- On match days, expect road closures and traffic restrictions around the stadium and downtown event zones, usually for several hours before and after the match.
- Pickups and deliveries inside those zones may see delays, broader service windows, and limited availability for time-specific appointments.
- Some host cities also have longer-running restrictions around fan zones and venues. The official city pages have the specifics.
- Lanes that do not pass through an affected zone are unlikely to see meaningful disruption.
The effects are localized to the event areas, not citywide or nationwide.
Host cities to plan around
If you ship to or from these metros, plan for match-day effects in their downtown and stadium areas.
United States: Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, New York and New Jersey, Philadelphia, San Francisco Bay Area, Seattle.
Canada: Toronto, Vancouver.
Where to find closure details
Each host city publishes and maintains its own closure schedule. We link the official sources rather than republish their schedules, so you always see the current information.

What we recommend
- Book affected shipments earlier and allow extra transit time
- Avoid scheduling time-sensitive deliveries in event zones on match days where possible
- Contact our team in advance for urgent, appointment-based, or high-priority freight so we can plan routing with carriers
On pricing
Some carriers are applying temporary World Cup surcharges. Whether one applies to a given shipment depends on the carrier, the lane, the dates, and the access conditions involved. These are already reflected in the prices you see in your FreightSimple quotes, so there is nothing you need to do.
