July 2026 Holiday Closures

Published June 2026.

Two public holidays in early July mean most LTL carriers across Canada and the United States pause pickups and deliveries for the day. Building a little buffer into the surrounding week keeps your freight on schedule.

This page covers the dates, what to expect, and how to plan around them.

The dates

  • Canada Day: Wednesday, July 1, 2026. Carriers across Canada are closed. No pickups or deliveries that day.
  • US Independence Day: observed Friday, July 3, 2026. The holiday itself falls on Saturday, July 4, so carriers across the United States are closed Friday, July 3.

What to expect

  • On the holiday itself, carriers pause standard pickups and deliveries. Some offer limited service by prior arrangement, so reach out if you have something that cannot wait.
  • Any transit time that spans a holiday adds a business day. A shipment moving over July 1 or July 3 will arrive a day later than it would in a normal week.
  • The business days right before and after a holiday are the busiest of the week, so pickups can run later than usual and capacity is tighter.
  • Cross-border shipments can be touched by both holidays, since terminals on each side of the border close on different days.

What we recommend

  • Book and schedule pickups a day or two earlier than usual during the holiday weeks.
  • Add a business day to your expected transit time for anything moving over July 1 or July 3.
  • Where you can, avoid booking pickups on the last business day before a holiday for time-sensitive freight.
  • Reach out to our team for urgent or appointment-based shipments and we will help you plan the timing with carriers.

On transit times in your quotes

The transit times shown in your FreightSimple quotes already account for carrier holiday schedules, so the estimates you see reflect these closures. There is nothing you need to adjust.
