Dangerous Goods
Dangerous or hazardous goods are straightforward to ship when a little extra preparation is taken to ensure the safety of everyone involved.
A carrier needs to know exactly what they are carrying, how it should be handled and what to do in an emergency. This information also helps them schedule shipments correctly. You certainly wouldn't want food moving next to something radioactive.
When you specify that something is dangerous in FreightSimple, you will only see quotes from carriers who are fully able to handle your dangerous freight and that specific shipment criteria.
Carriers use an international recognized system devised by the UN for handling dangerous goods. The products you are working with should have associated MSDS forms that describe the materials in great detail, and contain all the information you need to handle them.
Every type of commodity in this system has an associated UN number, a Hazard Classification, and a Packing Group. For example, something poisonous would be a different hazard class to something explosive. The packing group allows the carrier to know what can be loaded together. FreightSimple helps you find each one of these criteria, but if you are unsure, open a live chat or email support@freightsimple.com and our team will be happy to help!
